Scotland is another top contender for solo backpackers that are looking to go out and explore the world by themselves. Known for warm service and friendly folks, life in Scotland moves at a steady pace and offers plenty of sights to see for tourists. Accommodation and refreshments may be costly. However, the stay is well worth the expenses. Many visiting Scotland will not be hard-pressed to find friendly locals to trade stories with over a cold pint at a local bar, or find other travelers looking for a companion for the weekend. One aspect that attracts countless sight-seers is Edinburgh, heralded as the world leader in festival cities; since 1947 Edinburgh has held festivals honoring everything from military history to great musicians, with over three-thousand events, twenty-five-thousand performers and almost 5-million visitors from nearly every country. Such a tremendous cultural phenomenon has reserved a spot on UNESCO’s heritage list. Europe has so much to offer visitors traveling alone as seen with Scotland and will be continually presented through the last slide on the list, a truly magnificent destination to explore.
