9. The Troubled Cologne Cathedral

Located in Cologne, Germany, the Cologne Cathedral is a strong and impressive feat of architecture. Construction started back in 1248 but was halted which left the building unfinished until 1880. Although known around the globe for its great size and spires, the building has had many troubles in its history. During WWII, the cathedral was hit by multiple bombings, which did considerable damage to the city and building. Construction is a common occurrence here. However, the building is nonetheless iconic for its architectural design and character. Tourists will be sure to learn much history and enjoy the true struggle this great gem has been through which landed it on the list of UNESCO. Upcoming is the last but not least architectural wonder that is a symbol of hope and perseverance in the face of adversity, especially for Americans.
