Commonly referred to as ‘the most civilized skyscraper in the world’, the next impressive piece of architecture is The Gherkin in London, England. Opening in 2004, within London’s financial district, the building is approximately one-hundred-eighty meters tall and maintains an interesting curve appeal. Standing on the location of the former Baltic Exchange Building, architect Norman Foster was able to achieve a more modern look which is comprised of a stretched figure covered with glass panels. Many of tourists enjoy traveling to see the bold statement that the Gherkin makes amongst more reserved structures in the city. Incredibly well designed, energy efficient features such as smart filters and passive heat glass were included to ensure environmental responsibility. The following building is one that has had its troubles in the past but is still a force to be reckoned with in the world of architecture.
