People who have a dream of living sustainably may want to consider visiting or moving to the town of Taos, New Mexico. Taos is home to Michael Reynolds, a former architect with a mission to create sustainable homes from recycled materials, which he calls Earthships. There are seventy-five of Reynold’s Earthships in Taos. Each Earthship is different and constructed using materials that are found and available at the time of the project. These materials include old tires, cans, bottles, and scrap metal that are shaped into a fully functional and beautiful living space. The Earthships are designed to allow owners to produce their own food, use solar power, manage their own sewage, and live off the grid.
